2023 Surrey Bird Report

The 2023 Surrey Bird Report (SBR) is out and will be arriving with members. Stella Bignold and her team have done a marvellous job in getting the 2023 report ready for publication. This is Stella’s last report and we are so grateful to her for all the hard work she has put in over many years, especially in helping us get more up to date with the reports.
2023 was the second-warmest year on record for the UK (behind 2022) and the seventh-wettest year overall, characterized by extreme contrasts including a record-shattering hot June, a cooler, wet high summer, and an active autumn storm season. This 71st edition of the SBR features a review of the birding year and the full systematic list of birds seen in the vice-county in 2023, as well as the annual ringing report, early and late dates of migrants, nest record totals, and a range of colour photos; it’s a wonderful record of birds in Surrey for 2023. Also included is a paper on The discovery of a Citrine Wagtail – Motacilla citreola – at the London Wetland Centre – 14 June 2023 by Wendy Newnham
Non-members may purchase a copy at a price of £15.00 by contacting but why not join the club instead? The annual membership fee is £18 for those over 25 but free for those under 25 and membership includes a copy of the bird report, four newsletters a year and access to an exciting range of birding excursions.
Many thanks once more to the Bird Report team for all their hard work.
